Clinton Street Shade Garden

Located under the shade of a big linden tree, this garden posed certain challenges of root competition and shade. We employed plants of different textures and foliage types in order to create a sense of variety. We like how the shapes of the autumn brilliance Japanese shield fern echo the Japanese maple and contrast with the smooth leaves of the hostas. This fern shape is then repeated in the tiger-eyes sumac with its brilliant yellow fronds. The back garden was mostly established, but we did add a few new perennials in 2023.
